SPECIALISED LEARNING PROGRAM

Specialised Learning Program - Autism

The Specialised Learning Program - Autism(SLP-A) at Eden Hill Primary School provides tailored support to enhance the educational journey of autistic students in Kindergarten to Year 6. This intervention program is designed for students who show academic potential but face barriers to fully accessing the curriculum, placing them at risk of underachievement or disengagement.

The SLP focuses on fostering engagement in mainstream classrooms, building organisational skills, promoting social cognition, developing peer relationships, and enhancing emotional self-regulation. By addressing these areas, the program supports students in achieving academic success and developing the skills needed to transition successfully into mainstream schooling.

Program Structure

The SLP operates within the mainstream school environment. Students are included in mainstream classes and follow an individualised timetable designed to provide targeted support. The program aligns with evidence-based practices and neurodiversity-affirming approaches to ensure students thrive both academically and socially.

Eligibility and Application Process

Students must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply for the SLP: Autism:

  • Enrolment eligibility for Western Australian public schools (Kindergarten to Year 6).
  • Diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder without intellectual impairment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at or near year-level academic standards.
  • Significant social, emotional, or behavioural challenges related to autism.
  • Independent self-management of personal care needs.
  • Reliable family transport arrangements to and from school.

Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee placement, as suitability is determined through a comprehensive evaluation process. Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be kept on file, and families will be contacted when a position becomes available.

Comprehensive Assessment and Orientation

Once eligibility is confirmed, the school conducts a detailed assessment to ensure the program meets the student’s individual needs. Successful applicants will receive acceptance letters and participate in orientation days, with dates communicated directly to families.

Supporting Documentation and Collaboration

Applicants must submit supporting documents, such as medical reports, school records, and diagnostic evidence. Parents and caregivers collaborate with school staff throughout the process, contributing to planning and ensuring ongoing program engagement.

For more information or to submit an EOI, please contact Eden Hill Primary School at edenhill.ps@education.wa.edu.au or visit us at 83A Ivanhoe Street, Eden Hill, WA. Together, we aim to empower every student to reach their full potential.
